"Hockey Season" and Climate Change Video
About
We finished the edit on this short video this evening. It tells Johnny Kilabuk's "Hockey Season" story about climate change. This story shows that climate change is affecting Inuit of all ages and backgrounds. From traditional hunting to hockey, climate change is seriously affecting the lifeways of Arctic people.
This video was made by Christine Germano, Qajaaq Ellsworth, Stacey Algok MacDonald and Ian Mauro. Christine is a photographer and youth educator visiting Pang and working with the UNEP/GRID on a project called "Portraits of Resilience". Qajaaq, Stacey and I are here working on a youth-focused video project on climate change. Given our common interest, we decided to collaborate, and have been going into the local high school to encourage youth to write their stories about climate change. Once the stories are complete, we've been taking youth out into the community to take photos that represent their narrative. We've been documenting this process and interviewing each of the youth. As you'll see, parts of Johnny's text is edited with his interview and photos.
Please stay posted. We'll be uploading more youth videos throughout the week. On Monday, we'll be taking a group of youth "on the land" with a group of elders so they can share stories. On Tuesday, we'll be taking elders in the high school to teach youth about climate change. We'll be sharing more of this excellent footage soon!!!
